Sheer lunacy

I was poking around the Solscape utility when I decided to see when the next full moon would be.

It turns out that not only will it rise on the night of December 31, but it will be the second one of the month. Altogether, that makes it a New Year's Eve Blue Full Moon.

Given some of my own experiences at the practice on full moon nights, you could not pay me enough to do EMT or emergency room work on that particular evening.

I can only hope [info]kayotae's shift isn't too insane if he works then, though I'm sure he'll come away from it with some interesting stories.

A brief spin into silliness

  • Dec. 21st, 2009 at 3:06 PM

So I'm at the library now, reading books [duh!]. I am currenty wierded out by the strangeness in a craft encyclodia by the name of "Stitch by Stitch", which targets crochet, knitting, needlework and sewing.

I mean, I'm looking at these patterns [for knitting no less] and wondering what the editors were on! Chevron panelwork on a garter stitch overcoat? Cowboy jacket with fringe? A quilted vest!? Ew!

Yeah.

Short Version

Reader's Digest version:

Yeah, I know I've been seemingly under Radio Silence lately. Can't be helped.

I had to rescind the offer on Grape St.

Job at AT&T is looking up for everyone... except the clerks. Chances are, I'll be out of a job by April. Subject to change, of course, but it's not looking all that good. I hate this situation almost as much as I hate snow (all 20+ inches of it... which says something).

More details coming soon.

Merry Merry and Happy Happy.

red friends

Mike and Glen were inside the city limits this morning from their self-imposed exile out in St Chuck and we got together for lunch and then came back and hung out for awhile to catch up. Afterwards, it was time to address the issue with Matt's battery. During last week's cold snap, it wouldn't start for him, but thn started right up as the thermometer rose. This morning as we were leaving for lunch, it wouldn't start again. But when we got back and got the old truck (which has no problems starting) in place to jump it, it turned over. Matt had checked a couple of shops this week, but it was a special size and would have to be ordered. Sure, we only paid $13k for a 7-year-old (at the time) Merc' - which i still say was a smart move since it's pushing a quarter mil' and still running strong and looks great - but sometimes upkeep can be a bit on the pricey side.

The biggest issue with swapping out the battery is the theft-proof radio. Once you lose the juice, you have to enter a code to get it to work again. We went through this the last time and i'm sure i've got the email from MB in my inbox somewhere since i keep EVERYthing. But the liquid crystal display on the radio doesn't work anymore so we wouldn't be able to read the prompts. i had contemplated some kinda Rube Goldbergesque solution like using jumper cables from the new battery to the engine while we swapped them out, but Matt could only envision us coated with battery acid eating away our flesh after i'd blown the damn things up. Fuck it, i figured Sears would have a solution. Hell, every car's got computers and stuff that need constant power and sure enough, they had a way to keep low wattage juice to the system to keep a feed while they swapped it out. And they had the right battery in stock. So off we went and an hour or so later we had a new battery.

i don't care what my stomach says, my liver misses you take me out

On the way home, we stopped at the store so Matt could get the final fixin's for a pineapple-upside-down cake. Matt had to pause by the holiday liquor displays to say hey to the Crown Royal boxes (with NEW LOOK!!). He loved his Crown-on-the-rocks, but his tummy just won't have it anymore which is why he doesn't like going out as much anymore. Poor baby. i dropped him by the house to get started on his cake and went to Old St Louis Chop Suey ("CASH ONRY!!") for some of the yummiest chinese in town. Sure, we'd just gone to Mekong the night before, but that's actually Vietnamese. Beside, the Chinese eat chinese pretty much every night and yadda-yadda million chinese can't be wrong.

Is your first....

love suppose to hurt this much when it goes wrong?

Why is it taking so long to move on and move past this?

Why do I second guess my heart?

I really think I know but such hurtful things have been thrown upon me that I really doubt my intentions and feelings over this.

I've just gotten the thorns...

blah, blah, blah.... ah fuck it....

Had the car tire blow and get thrashed Saturday while out with my older bro and younger sis. One tow truck and Pro shop later and I'm back from talking to them and now the waiting game for the call saying they are done.

Hoping to get some of the packages in the mail that I have ordered. Still waiting on a couple of t-shirts that I ordered from Grisser among other things.

Got a neat commission that I'll post up later.

It's pretty easy to get burnt out on Christmas songs, especially when they play the same ones over and over in a continual cycle.

You would think that the local stations might at least try music that sounds more Californian, like songs from the Ventures' Christmas album or maybe something funky by Booker T. and the MG's.

But there are some that still catch at my heart, because of the feelings and memories they evoke. Or sometimes because of what the performers have brought to the song.

One of my favorites is "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas", in this case performed by John Denver and Rowlf the Dog during a Muppet holiday special. It may sound odd, but the mixture of Denver's soaring voice and Rowlf's bluesy roughness adds a lovely feel to the piece.

Besides, the dog plays a mean piano.
